Long Version

Dezentrum is a think & do tank for digitalisation and society. It does research, awareness-raising, and gives impulses for innovation. It works with both the public and the private sector, universities and international alliances. Dezentrum does not only consider itself as a think tank that formulates bold hypotheses. But also as a do tank that tests them with experiments and thus sets impulses for desirable futures. Always committed to the same goal: To actively shape a digital era that puts society at its heart.

Background

What motivates us?

How do certain technologies affect industries or our future society? While pondering upon these questions, it is important to not only take the probable, but also the preferable developments into account. Our future scenarios and experiments show possible perspectives and suggest alternative ways to navigate through upcoming challenges.

What do we do?

  1. Understanding the Digital Transformation

What social and technological developments will have a particularly strong impact on us in the future? To understand this, we are working on trend and technology reports, technology assessments as well as analyses of our social environment. For these, we not only collaborate closely with civic organisations, but also partners from the scientific community. We always try to make our results available to a broader audience by publishing various findings in our podcast or blog.

  2. Making possible futures tangible through scenarios

Speculations allow us to rethink the status quo and break away from current norms. Together with our civil society-, business- and scientific project partners, we develop future scenarios and determine how to act in the present in order to move towards preferable scenarios. This opens up new scope for us to actively shape the future.

  3. Carrying out future experiment

We cannot predict the future, but we can test it instead. Ting, for example, examines what people's lives would look like if they invested in their own future as well as the future of others. Satelleth and our house no1s1 on the other hand, are exploring what happens when technology belongs to itself. These future experiments are aimed at building prototypes. The prototypes help us grasp the future while testing what value they could bring to the table.

  4. Bringing together people

What challenges and potentials come with digital change? Together we have a better chance answering such questions than by solely working on our own. That is why we organise numerous events and workshops to discuss our topics as well as any other digitalisation-related topics with as many diverse actors as possible. The objective is to come up with robust answers that are oriented towards the common good.
