Great Google Gala
Unfortunately, the event is sold out. But there will be a livestream:

The US and the EU are working to ban ad tracking, Google's business model. And to break up the company, which controls the internet as part of big tech, into individual business units.
But how was Google able to quietly become a power factor in Switzerland at the same time, without any criticism? In Zurich, which is governed by the red-green coalition, to the driver of gentrification? And how did it actually come about that Google appropriated the internet and earns hundreds of billions every year by spying on its users? This is the topic of the Republik series "Do not feed the Google", a collaboration between Republik, the think & do tank Dezentrum and the journalism collective "wav".
In a conversation with Ramona Sprenger (Dezentrum) and Republik reporter Daniel Ryser, Andy Müller-Maguhn, ex-speaker of the Chaos Computer Club (CCC) and luminary of the early internet, reports how google disregarded the basic commandment of decentralisation and thus became the big, central power factor on the internet, following and analysing us at every turn.
Ten years ago, Müller-Maguhn analysed the Snowden documents for Der Spiegel: What role Google played in these documents - we will also talk about this with the hacker and data journalist. And above all, we will talk to the internet luminary about how we can overcome Google, about the way back to a free internet.
In the second part of the evening, also moderated by Ramona Sprenger and Daniel Ryser, wav journalist Lorenz Naegeli and Republik-Tech reporter Adrienne Fichter report on their research into the question of how Zurich was able to become the largest Google location outside of California in recent years. Who rolled out the red carpet for Google in Zurich? What deals were agreed? And what does Google actually programme in Zurich? Or rather: what isn't it actually doing? The two reporters also tell us how you can fall foul of the authorities when you do research on Google.
Also on the podium: Zurich SP National Councillor Jacqueline Badran. We discuss with her the contradiction between red-green location marketing, an accelerator for gentrification and tax dodging, and red-green tax and housing policy, which Badran vehemently supports as a politician.
Not on the podium: representatives of Google, Zurich's location marketing or the Directorate for Urban Development, who have refused to talk to the Republic for months.
Before, in between and afterwards: actress Sascha Ö. Soydan will read passages from "Do not feed the Google"!
