Climate protection starts locally
Climate protection starts in your municipality and in your canton! You have important levers at your disposal to achieve a global impact.
OK Climate shows you how to activate these levers effectively. This will accelerate your path to net zero. We carry out a transparent and independent assessment of the climate policy of large Swiss municipalities and cantons and derive proposals for concrete measures.
Transparency, cooperation and citizen participation are at the centre of this project.

Working together for net zero by 2040
Under the Paris Climate Agreement, Switzerland has committed to becoming climate-neutral by 2050. The Climate Alliance wants to achieve net zero by 2040. However, the current political measures are likely to fall well short of both targets.
The municipalities and cantons play a key role in implementing an efficient and effective climate policy. They have two thirds of public funds at their disposal and set the local framework conditions. However, they are not yet utilising all the levers available to them. This is partly because there is a lack of transparency regarding possible measures and their effectiveness.
A data platform with recommendations for action
With the support of the Migros Pioneer Fund and the Mercator Switzerland Foundation, the project is building a nationwide platform in full independence. It will show what additional levers are available and how they can be activated.
For politicians, authorities, climate organisations and the civilian population
The platform is aimed at politicians and authorities, as well as organisations that deal directly or indirectly with the climate and ultimately the entire interested population. It offers a holistic and transparent insight into the effectiveness of local climate policy and allows everyone to demand or support climate measures in their municipality or canton in a targeted manner.
Last but not least, all those involved should realise how relevant, low-threshold and effective local climate policy demands and measures can be and that commitment is worthwhile.
