Collaborative future scenarios for the parliamentary services

What will our work look like in the future? The Parliamentary Services team developed various scenarios to answer this question. Some cautious, some radical. They familiarised themselves with various methods from futures thinking and explored their own assumptions about the future. The all-day scenario technology workshop led to a wealth of insights - which are now being used to develop a new mission statement.

We were able to organise a scenario workshop with the parliamentary services of the Canton of Zurich to explore the question of what their work might look like in 2060. By analysing influencing factors, future assumptions and projections of existing developments, we developed various scenarios together with the employees.

A wide range of visions emerged in the groups, covering topics from digitalisation and politics to social interactions. A new mission statement for the coming years is now being formulated on this basis.

The added value of the workshop lies not only in the findings, but in the process itself. Participants learn to think long-term, develop innovative approaches and appreciate the importance of reflection when thinking about futures.

Futures experts and Dezentrum partners Ramona Sprenger and Stephan Hartmann led through the day and offered insights into the world of futures research with several in-depth presentations, providing inspiring food for thought that encouraged participants to look beyond their usual horizons and ask critical questions about shaping our future society

As a small give-away, we had the imagined visions visualised by the generative AI Midjourney and gave the printouts as a souvenir of the workshop.

Our scenario workshop offers a great opportunity to explore futures, recognise new options for action in the present and unleash the potential of futures literacy
